ISLAMABAD: Chinese nationals killed in a terrorist attack near Karachi airport were actively engaged in renegotiations with Pakistan’s government regarding Independent Power Producers (IPPs), Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb revealed on Tuesday. The talks aimed at restructuring debt to lower power tariffs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged to bolster security for all Chinese workers in Pakistan, emphasizing the necessity of a stable environment to attract foreign investment. Referring to past disruptions, he vowed not to allow a repeat of 2014, when PTI protests derailed a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Aurangzeb expressed condolences over the loss and stressed the importance of continuing negotiations to create a “win-win” situation for both countries. The strike led by PTI, he said, had caused significant economic damage, with the finance ministry estimating daily losses of Rs190 billion. PM Shehbaz condemned the unrest, likening it to the 2014 sit-in, and vowed to prevent any further disruptions.
